「Chicago Transit Authority/シカゴ（1969）」-Chicago Transit Authority

すでに30枚近いアルバムをリリースしているシカゴのデビューアルバム（ただし、ぼくにとってシカゴは４枚目で終わっているのでそれ以降は聴いてません）。シカゴの最高傑作だと思っています。というか、シカゴは１stアルバムを超えることはできなかったと思っています。５枚目以降はあがき続けてメンバーチェンジを重ね、今ではぜんぜん違うバンドです。

１stはパワフルで緊張感のあふれ、優れた演奏と鮮烈な歌詞、全体の構成のどれをとっても非の打ち所がありません（テリー・キャスのソロはちょっと勘弁）。ホーンセクションがここまで生かされた曲って、その後のロック史をたどっても出てこなかったのではないでしょうか？

それにしても30年以上前にここまでやってしまったシカゴのオリジナルメンバーには脱帽です。ジミヘンやジャニスが競演したがったというのもわかります。

何故かシカゴにはあまり惹かれなかったんです。
綺麗すぎたのかな、音も服も。(^_^;
洗練されたサウンドより、荒削りだけれどヘヴィーな方が好きだったんだな～。

ダンさん、こんにちは～。
実はぼくもシカゴって受け付けなかったんです。でも、大ヒットした「Saturday in the Park」の歌詞を読んでびっくりして（実は反戦の歌なんですよね）、あわてて１stから5thまでまとめ買いして聴いて惚れちゃったんです（６枚目以降は個人的にはあまり好きではないです）。
シカゴはあとでだんだんAOR化してしまいましたが、デビュー当時は洗練されてないです（というか荒削りでパワー一発という感じ）。特にテリーキャスのギターは破天荒です（笑）。ぜひベストではなく、１stアルバムを聴いてみてください。

曲名を見ていくと結構覚えています、ってことは聴いていたのかな？(^_^;
もうひとつシカゴ拒絶反応の因子がありました。人数です。
ロックなら４人で演りなさい、せいぜい５人が限界です。ぞろぞろと寄ってたかって演奏してはいけません。(｡oﾟ)＼(-"-)

人数の問題は確かにありますね。やはり３人というのが究極でしょう。Jimi Hendrix＆Ex、Cream、BBA、SRVとそうそうたるバンドが並びますし。Jazzもトリオが一番好きです。
あれ？　でもAllman Brothers BandやDoobie Brosは多いなぁ（笑）。
